Volunteer ProgramVolunteers are a vital component of the day to day success of North County Women’s Shelter Programs. Volunteers help connect victims to the resources, care, and assistance they need to heal the deep wounds wrought by domestic violence. We provide volunteer opportunities that fit every volunteer’s schedule and realm of interest. After Hours SupportVolunteers offer 24 hour support to local victims of domestic violence who call 211 Hotline in search of resources. Volunteers in this category provide informed assistance to victims who need immediate advice and comforting. At times, these volunteers help families enter the shelter after business hours. State mandated 40 hour domestic violence training is provided to all volunteers interested in participating in the after-hours support program. Court AccompanimentMany DV survivors must attend court hearings during the restraining order process. Court appearances make victims feel stressed, confused, threatened, and lonely. Volunteers provide court accompaniment offer victims stability and support during stressful legal hearings. A state mandated 40 hour domestic violence training is provided to all volunteers interested in participating in the court accompaniment program. Direct Client ServicesVolunteers work directly with women and children in the shelter to assist their healing process. This often includes provision transportation, childcare, and after-school tutoring. Volunteers are also needed to assist with moving and transition chores like loading and transporting belongings and furniture. General emotional support and peer counseling is also an important aspect of volunteering directly with shelter residents. All volunteers hoping to provide direct client services will be provided with a free, 40 hour domestic violence training program. Clerical SupportVolunteers who provide clerical support work exclusively in the office to aid in daily office operations. Volunteers assist with copying, filing, bulk mailings, phones, and general office organization. Public AwarenessA known presence in the community is the best way to ensure all victims in need know about North County Women’s Shelter services. Volunteers distribute agency brochures and media promoting our services to relevant San Luis Obispo County businesses, agencies, municipalities, and other establishments frequented by the general public. Brochure distribution occurs on an on-going, routine basis. FundraisingVolunteers who provide fundraising assistance help set-up and break-down event spaces, promote events, decorate venues, sell tickets, and support staff and planners with any other event specific tasks as needed. |
